Excessive heat can degrade the protective qualities of differential fluid, leading to accelerated wear of gears and bearings. In limited-slip differentials, constant high temperatures break down clutch packs and friction modifiers, resulting in reduced efficiency and compromised traction control. The PPE Rear Differential Cover for the Dana 80 11.25-inch 10-bolt axle is cast from high-grade A356.0-T6 heat-treated aluminum alloy, adds 0.60 quart of fluid capacity, and carries half-inch external cooling fins in a black finish for long-lasting heat management on 1999-2016 Ford Super Duty and 1994-2002 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks.
External cooling fins pull heat out of the fluid and add impact resistance, while precision-placed internal windage scrapers keep fluid distributed around the gears and cut the excessive churning that causes heat, aeration, and parasitic power loss. Together the fins and scrapers form an ultra-strong cross-bracing structure, backed by cast-in gussets that support the differential housing flange. The fill plug sits at the factory level, and both service plugs carry high-temperature neodymium magnets to capture ferrous particles.
