Two seal rings are present on the OEM accumulator pistons. The piston’s open end has a seal groove with a larger diameter, and the seal ring serves as a guide to keep the piston from making contact with the bore. The piston’s closed end has a seal groove with a smaller diameter that serves as a traditional seal. The piston will, however, come into contact with the bore when side-loaded, causing scuffing, wear, and clutch apply pressure leakage because the seal groove’s diameter is smaller. Three guide seal rings are included in this set; one at each end of the piston – and one in the middle, to prevent piston-to-bore scuffing under side loading.
