Ultimate Ranger Mud Build
Everyone knows that the Polaris Ranger is one of the best workhorse machines around, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used for some mean, mud-throwin' fun. With an 8" GDP Portal Gear Lift installed on your Polaris Ranger 1000, you’ll gain tons of clearance and torque—perfect for 34" tires. Choose from a 45%, 60%, or 70% gear reduction, and upgrade to dual idlers for the strongest gear set available.
What is a Dual Idler®?
By placing a second idler gear in the portal box, the load is spread over twice as much surface area for more reliable torque transfer. Precision CNC grinding ensures the gears mate perfectly, and the gears are made from 9310 steel alloy.
Best in the Mud Business with 45%, 60%, and 70% Gear Reductions
Adding 8" GDP Portals gives you room for bigger tires so you can cruise over mud instead of plowing through it. The 45%, 60%, and 70% gear reduction options help you run huge tires while bringing your torque back and making the machine feel more stock. You’ll get punchy acceleration and easier turning with oversized mud tires.
Protect Your Drivetrain
Because the gear reduction is in the hub, portals help reduce stress on your drivetrain. Your axles, differential, prop shafts, and transmission are protected, which means less wear and more fun riding.
Housings and Backing Plates Built Stronger
GDP portals are built for strength with cast or USA-made 6061 billet aluminum housings and 5/16" backing plates made from an advanced steel alloy.

A Frame Stiffener Is Required
An 8" portal gear lift adds a lot of extra weight, so a frame stiffener is required for extra support.

Polaris Ranger 1000 Portal Gear Reduction Recommendations
Max tire sizes are measured at full compression and full turn. The listed tire sizes are the largest that fit without rubbing, though larger tires may fit with minor trimming or a small amount of rub.
If you need help figuring out which gear reduction is right for you, use the portal gear reduction calculator or learn more about how tire size and gear reduction can unleash your machine’s potential with the gear reduction guide.
