A thread cleaning chaser is a must-have whether you're installing factory-style bolts, aftermarket head studs, main studs, or any other fasteners. A thread chaser works by cleaning out the internally threaded holes in your engine block. To use a thread chaser you simply run the tool through the hole and remove it, this process is then repeated until the threads are clean.

A thread chaser is different than a tap in that a chaser is not meant to cut new threads, only clean them. It is essential to remove debris such as dried sealants, lubricants, gasket material, and anything else that may fall into the internal bolt holes in your engine block. This cleaning process will give you confidence in your work during engine assembly. Using a thread chaser allows you to ensure that the internally threaded bolt holes are cleaned, and that you can get accurate torque readings while torquing the fasteners in your engine build, or repair.
